Why so short?

No, I’m not referring to my mothers first comment when I get my hair cut!

Instead I’m referring to a question I received today via Wodify’s anonymous feedback button regarding today’s WOD: “Why such a short WOD? That seems to be a regular thing. Just curious.”

Watch this video from start to about min 1:48 and you will understand why.

But basically it comes down to several things:

1)INTENSITY
Intensity, as we define it, is exactly equal to average power (force x distance / time). In other words, how much real work did you do and in what time period? The greater the average power, the greater the intensity. This makes it a measurable fact, not a debatable opinion. Intensity and average power are the variable most commonly associate with optimizing favorable results. Whatever you want from exercise comes faster with intensity. It’s NOT volume or duration or heartrate or even discomfort. Do more work in less time (without overdoing it), and you’ll get fitter faster.

2)SAFETY
It’s well over 100 degrees with the heat index. We care about your safety. Long duration WODs in this heat is potentially dangerous especially if you are not sufficiently hydrated.

3)LOGISTICS
We have a 1RM Push Press today. We want to allow you at least 15-20min to get that gold star today, so adding a long duration wod would not be logistically possible.

Our programming has been consistent with CrossFit’s definition of fitness….”Increased work capacity over time and modal domains”. Meaning, not all wods will be 15-20min long and not all wods will consist of strength, stamina, skill work. Take a look back at past programming and you will see that at least once a week we program a wod near the 20min range.

If you enjoy the long durations wods then be sure to attend to our 9am Saturday class as these are typically longer. Or sign up for Open Gym and come to Sunday Funday where we definitely exceed the 30min mark with a single or multiple workouts!
