5 weeks ago, Melissa Bolaños began the transition from eating meats, poultry, fish and dairy to 100% vegan. The jump seems drastic, for many of us kicking out those high-protein foods seems outrages, but Melissa did it without a problem. What motivated her was the possibility of change, not the assurance. She dived into an unknown lifestyle, reading and researching as she went along with her plan. She got help from friends, asked the questions she needed answered so she wasn’t blind to the right steps. Fortunately, by the picture displayed above you can see her apparent success. In a few weeks she had lost a significant amount of weight. By keeping her protein macronutrients high (something that the CFE Crew stressed nearly everyday), she retained muscle while burning fat. She also did not lose any strength, keeping her Olympic Lifts just as they were before the transition.

However, let’s not give all the credit to the lifestyle change in the kitchen, because she also made one outside of it. Melissa has been coming to CrossFit Equality nearly everyday, lifting heavy a** weight back on those lifting platforms. There were no more excuses or barriers keeping her from putting in the work, so she did it willingly. Not only has her body changed but so has her spirit. She’s more energized, more motivated to achieve her goals than ever before. She sticks to the program written by Weightlifting Coach Michael and has prospered considerably in a short time. With hopes to compete, her work ethic has been virtually flawless.

Melissa, you have been an inspiration to many athletes and crew members here at CrossFit Equality. Thank you!

If there is one thing we can learn from Melissa is don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Change is hard, it’s scary and sometimes it doesn’t turn out the way we had initially hoped it would. Though sometimes, it does. Don’t say, “I could have” or “I should have”. DO IT! Try it out whatever it is! Do not be afraid of failure because from failure comes success. If you don’t try you’ll never know.

So I challenge you to try. If you’re wanting to get back in shape or into a gym with an AWESOME community, Sign Up for a Free No Sweat Intro! Get to know us and we’ll get to know you. Like I said before, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

As individuals we sometimes
